Read or listen? You choose! (Audio voiceovers now available in Substack and in external podcasts)
11+ audio voiceovers are now online in Substack, and podcasts for 6 'P's in AI Pods are now live! (Spotify, Apple Podcast, Overcast, Pocket Casts, YouTube, and RSS feed are available)
2024-10-09 update: Dear readers, I am still working with Substack tech support on an issue where recent 6P episodes with voiceovers (the latest AI, Software, & Wetware interviews) were not being picked up in the RSS file that feeds all of the external podcasts. All episodes through August 29 are now synchronized and available in the external podcasts. Audio tracks for the recent AISW interviews are only available in Substack and via a separate RSS feed for the People section. I’ll update this page when the issue has been resolved.
In the meantime, audio voiceovers can be played directly from the Substack posts, through the app or on the website, or via the RSS feeds. Let me know if you’re finding them useful.
Following up on my experiments with audio voiceovers, I’ve now recorded audio for 11 posts, and I’ve enabled the podcast for 6 ‘P’s in AI Pods!
Posts with audio voiceovers will now appear automatically in Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Pocket Casts, Overcast.fm, YouTube Podcast, and YouTube Music. And the RSS feed ought to work with other podcast players. To get connected, use these direct links, or search your podcast app for “6P” or “Karen J Smiley” to find 6 ‘P’s in AI Pods in the catalog. It should have the podcast image that’s at the bottom of this page.
Info on the podcast for our sibling publication, Agile Analytics and Beyond, is here.
Not a podcast user? You can also listen to audio voiceovers in the Substack app or on the website.
Once I’ve saved a voiceover recording in a Substack post and published, it seems to take an hour to a day for the audio to be available in the podcasts.
I’m still hoping to someday get the automatic text-to-speech option that is enabled for many, but NOT all, Substack publications. In the meantime, until I settle on an affordable and ethical AI voice cloning tool, I’ll keep doing these audio voiceovers manually. Please let me know if you find these voiceovers convenient, or if you have feedback on improving them!
Lack of automation means that not all posts will get audio, and the recordings may lag the release of the newsletter articles. Subscribing is still the best way to be notified by email or the app when new articles come out. It’s free, and you can choose which sections to be notified about:

Here are some posts I’m thinking of recording next (not necessarily in the order listed). New posts will probably take priority over these. What do you think?
