An interview with Dr. Mary Marcel, Associate Professor of Information Design and Corporate Communication, on her stories of using AI and how she feels about AI using people's data and content
I did enjoy this piece and agreed with so much of what Dr Marcel said. You can use up to date sources in ChatGPT, however. The original training data was indeed no later than 2021 but if you specific up to date info and ask for sources, itβll trawl the web and add that into the mix.
Thanks for sharing this comment, Gabriel - so glad you enjoyed the article! It's good to know that newer sources can be included this way. My understanding has been that newer paid versions also incorporated some training data newer than 2021. I expect she'll still prefer to teach her students to do direct searches on their own and verify data sources, for all of the other reasons :)
BTW, I notice your profile says you write about music. I'd love to hear your thoughts about ethical AI and music (my other major topic here on Substack this year) ...

And who could fault her for that? :-)
Not me, certainly π
