📢 UNESCO webinar on AI and Intangible Cultural Heritage, Oct. 17 8-11am EDT
The UNESCO webinar on AI and ICH is open to all via Zoom - registration is free. (Follow-up to my Sept. 30/Oct. 1 post on CIPRI and the 3Cs for creators' rights)
On Thursday, the First International Day of Intangible Cultural Heritage, UNESCO is hosting a webinar on “AI and Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH)”. Webinar speakers will discuss how Artificial Intelligence impacts our living heritage and share insights on UNESCO’s 2021 Recommendations on the Ethics of AI.
The full agenda and list of speakers are available here. Interpretation in English and French will be provided. It will run from 2pm–5pm CET, or 8-11am EDT. Register here. Some highlights:
Panel 1 “What is AI and why does it matter for intangible cultural heritage?” includes panelists from Mexico, Morocco, and Poland, with a moderator from the UK.
Panel 2 “How can intangible cultural heritage practitioners and other stakeholders manage AI risks and opportunities?” includes panelists from Australia, France, Kenya, and Romania, with a moderator from Poland.
Panel 2 ties directly to my Sept. 30 post on ethics of generative AI, CIPRI, and the 3Cs for creators’ rights: “Giving credit for "consent, credit, and compensation" where it's due: an origin story for the 3Cs and 4Cs of creative rights”.
On panel 2, CIPRI founder Ashoka Fellow Monica Boţa Moisin will speak about “The 3C Rule Consent. Credit. Compensation ©”1. Monica’s talk will present the 3Cs as a tool for training generative AI models to respect the rights of Indigenous people, ethnic groups and local communities.
I’ve registered for the webinar, and hope to be able to join & report on the sessions afterwards. Looking forward to hearing thoughts from others who join!
