Listening!! The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Commercialism also opens up Pandora’s box of harms and opportunism emblematic of many past inventions. In this era where the speed of innovation surpasses true understanding and regulation, these systems already in production can only get better with usage, transparency, and iterating to resolve limitations and failures.

Great insight Jing Hu: Be curious. Be wary of AI as efficiency traps. Define your goals and determine how AI can assist. Be aware that all AI tools are not ready yet.

Cautious optimism is the prescribed remedy. For me, my goal, in this process, is not to lose what it means to be human.

Great interview Karen Smiley and Jing Hu!!

‘The road to hell is paved with good intentions‘, love the expression!

Every time I talked about the commercial intention, I asked myself, would I do the same if I were them? My answer is always certain, yes. If I were them, I’d be pushed by my network, my shareholders, other founders, and people with other power over me…

Not saying they should be off the hook (which only themselves are in the position to do so…)

But it is exactly the fact that we all get pushed to do something by how the world shapes us, I have more respect for people like you, @Hessie Jones and @Karen Smiley, you are doing something very important to the world, and not many bother making the efforts. 👏👏👏

I remember when I first developed a business in 2011 by aggregating transactional information with big data thinking how much more we could effectively sell if we knew more about individuals. I justified that context matters and understanding conversations and influence would generate better ROI.

it would take me a few years to slowly realize that I was crossing very dangerous line and as a person who worked for big ad platforms like Yahoo! where in 2004 we were experimenting with behavioural performance, I realized there were things that I, as a marketer, did not need to know about nor should I have the right to access. Very personal information like politics, sexual proclivities, health or mental health insinuations have now become the hallmark of what has come to be known as surveillance capitalism. This is the reason I began to learn about and embrace data privacy. Deleted Fb in 2016 and did an about face on what I shared on these platforms.

Very important take! Makes me want to know more about your journey! Can't wait to have more conversations.
